MONTGOMERY, AL — The Alabama Captive Insurance Association’s Risky Business Internship Program, in collaboration with Arsenal and Troy University, received placement on the shortlist in the Next Generation Initiative category for the 2020 US Captive Awards presented by Captive Review.

The Next Generation Initiative category is open to organizations that have implemented initiatives to bring in the next generation of talent to the captive industry. Finalists in this category display innovative ways to promote the captive industry to the next generation and take proactive steps to prepare them for careers in the alternative-risk sector.

“We are honored to have the Risky Business Internship program recognized as a leading Next Generation Initiative” Justin Law, Managing Director of the Risky Business Internship Program, said, “With so few insurance-focused programs in Alabama, the Risky Business Internship Program provides us with a platform to engage with students about the opportunities in risk management and insurance.”

The Risky Business Internship program is the first multi-entity program in Alabama to offer internships to Risk Management and Insurance students. Risky Business is designed to expose students to the captive insurance and alternative-risk management sector to encourage them to pursue careers within the industry. The program provides undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to gain unique experience in risk management and insurance by exposing them to the daily operations of several different service providers.

Since its official launch in January of 2020, the Risky Business Internship program has received national recognition by Captive International and endorsements from notable organizations, such as the Alabama Property and Casualty Adjusters Association (APCAA) and the Alabama Department of Insurance (AL DOI).

“The Risky Business Internship Program provides a unique opportunity for RMI students to gain exposure to the endless opportunities and avenues available in the Risk Management field,” Dr. Edward Pappanastos, the Associate Chair of the Department of Risk Management and Data Analytics for Troy University, said. “I am excited that this innovative program was highlighted as a top initiative to bring new talent into the industry.”

ACIA will host a special event to celebrate the success of the Risky Business Internship program at the upcoming annual conference. The 2020 ACIA annual conference will be held September 16-18, 2020 in Birmingham, Alabama, at The Westin Birmingham. Visit www.ALCaptives.org for more information.
